Project Overview

United Helpers is a senior care and assisted living services provider located in deeply rural northern New York. In December 2020, they experienced a severe Covid-19 outbreak affecting both residents and staff. The dramatically increased need for staffing at all levels as well as equipment/materials quickly reached crisis proportions.

The local Northern Area Health Education Center (NAHEC) partnered with the HWapps team at Health WorkForce New York (HWNY) to deploy a United Helpers Community Engagement platform (https://unitedhelpersneeds.hwapps.org/).  NAHEC worked with United Helpers and their local partners to devise and implement a community outreach campaign. It took less than a week from conception to launch.

Within 48 hours from launch, the platform had over 2,500 visits and 117 responses to the needs posted: 40 responses to provide staffing assistance, 77 responses to supply PPE/materials and meals, and 29 responses to provide volunteer services. It has been an overwhelming success. NAHEC is now continuing to use HWNY’s HWapps Digital Experience Platform advanced analytics to optimize outreach efforts and ensure meaningful and ongoing engagement with the community.
